The DAA / CDA framework
A working framework for linking digital representations to evidence, context, and rights.
Two related categories
For this platform, Cultural Digital Assets (CDAs) are the broader category of digital records and representations of cultural material. Digital Archaeological Assets (DAAs) focus on archaeological material and datasets. These are our working platform terms, rather than claims of a universally adopted classification.
A mesh, photograph, animation, or token alone does not establish archaeological provenance. A useful record makes its evidence and limitations explicit.
What a record should contain
- A stable identifier, description, and digital representations.
- Find context and provenance, where documented; explicit unknowns elsewhere.
- Dating and identification, with sources, attribution, and uncertainty.
- Capture method, scale, processing history, and file versions.
- Separate statements of physical ownership, digital rights, access, and licensing.
- Review status, contributors, and a history of revisions.
Current collection
DAA-0001 is an owner-reported Augustus denarius with a video and research record. DAA-0002 through DAA-0005 have spatial previews but await identification and contextual metadata. DAA-0006 contains supplied pyramid mesh variants, with site identity, real-world scale, and documentation awaiting verification. Inclusion is not authentication or permission to reproduce.
